This sport is becoming more and more popular in Australia. Especially in the retirement sector. But the first question that comes to mind to many when they hear the name of the sport is “WHAT IS PICKLEBALL?!”
Pickleball is a paddle sport that was created in 1965 in the USA by 3 dads because their kids were bored over summer. It’s sort of like a cross between tennis, badminton and table tennis and is played on a court that’s half the size of a tennis court.
You play using a paddle and a plastic hollow, perforated ball and the game can be played with singles or doubles. The first player or team to 11 points wins.
There are more rules and even a zone on the court called the kitchen, but ultimately it’s a fun game that can become very competitive between friends and is now a professional sport!
Pickleball can be played inside or outside and is actually low-impact and a great way to excercise, so it’s accessible for many ages.
What does a pickleball court look like?

Just like a tennis court but smaller! You can actually fit 2 pickle ball courts into one tennis court.
A pickleball court is a great use of land and makes these courts a perfect solution for an area that you want to turn into an entertainment heaven! Especially if you only have a small space to work with.
A pickelball court is also perfect for an older crowd as the court is a much smaller space to move around, making it a retirement friendly option. In addition to retirement villages they also suit sports clubs, holiday parks and entertianment centres.
Who builds pickleball courts?
Companies like Bioscapes Group. In fact they are one of the very limited number of companies that construct pickleball courts in Australia.
